1. a (an)

（adj.）: 一個；同一的；某一個

例句：

Rome（羅馬）was not built in a day.

中譯： 羅馬不是一天造成的。

A student came to see me.

注意：

英語是以發音為主的一種語言， a或 an的選擇要由a或 an後面那個字的發音來決定，如果後面那個字的發音（不是拼字）第一個音是母音則要用an其他的音則要用a。

例如：an A, an F, an H, an S, an X, an hour, an uncle, an honest…

     a boy, a U, a unit, a one-eyed man, a horse…

2. a few

（adj.）: 一些

3. a little

（adj.）: 一些

例句：

I have a few cats but he has a few dogs.

I have a little money but not much.

注意一:

a few  的後面要加 “複數” 的 ”可數” 名詞   例如: boys, girls, friends…

a little 的後面要加 ”不可數” 名詞           例如: money, time…

★ He is a little boy.   中譯： 他是一個小男孩。

這個句子中的 a little 不是一些的意思， 後面的 boy 也不需用複數加s

為什麼？？？

因為…boy是 ”可數” 名詞， 而不是 ”不可數” 名詞。

所以， He is a little boy.   中譯： 他是一個小男孩。

而不是翻譯成：他是一些男孩。

Get it？（明白了嗎？）

注意二:

many及 much（許多）的用法和a few，a little（一些）相同。

只是在數量上 many 比 a few 多，much 比 a little 多。

例句：

I have many cats but he has many dogs.

I have much money.

注意三:

few 跟 a few 有何不同？  little跟 a little有何不同？

a few跟 a little 是肯定的用法（有一些）。

但是，few跟 little是否定的用法（幾乎沒有）。

例句：

I have a few friends.  中譯： 我有一些朋友。

I have few friends.    中譯：我沒有什麼朋友（朋友很少，幾乎沒有朋友）

I have few friends. 幾乎等於＝I have no friends.（我沒有朋友。）

I have a little money.  中譯：我有一些錢。

I have little money.   中譯：我沒有什麼錢。（錢很少，幾乎沒有錢）

I have little money. 幾乎等於＝I have no money. （我沒有錢。）

4. a lot = a lot of = lots (of)

（adj.）: 很多

例句：

I have a lot of friends. 中譯：我有很多朋友。

He’s feeling a lot better today. 中譯：他今天身體好很多了。

注意：這個句子中的 a lot=very much是副詞用法

5. able

（adj.）: 能；有本事的；能幹的

例句：

Will you be able to come？

Alex is an able man.

6. about

（prep.介系詞）: 關於；大約

（adv. 副詞）: 大約；忙於…

例句：

I know all about it.

What is it all about? 中譯：這是怎麼一回事？

It is about ten o’clock.

What is he about?

It is about time to start.

7. above

（prep.介系詞）: 在…的上方；對﹍太困難

例句：

Our plane（飛機）is flying above the clouds（雲）.

This book is above me.   English is above me.

8. afraid

（adj.）: 害怕；恐怕

例句：

There’s nothing to be afraid of.

Are you afraid of dogs？

I’m afraid (that) I can’t help.

9. after

（prep.介系詞）: 在…之後；追尋；

（conj. 連接詞）: 在…之後

例句：

After you, sir.（您先請）

I will go with you after school.

after work（下班後） after class（下課後） after dinner（晚餐後）

Shut the door after you. 中譯：隨手關門。

What is he after?

Run after him! 中譯：追趕他！

10. afternoon

（可數n.）: 下午

例句：

I met him one afternoon last week.
